Ohio Gun Owners is in the middle of our fight to pass the Second Amendment Preservation Act, which would protect Ohio from the gun-control agenda that Washington DC keeps screaming for.
But while the General Assembly is on summer break, I need to tell you about a threat that could undo everything that you and I have worked hard to accomplish over the last several years.
On August 8th, Ohio will have a special election on “Issue 1,” and it is critical for our gun rights that Issue 1 passes.
If it passes, Issue 1 would require changes to the Ohio Constitution be approved by a 60% majority of voters rather than the current 50%, and we support this change. Let me explain.
One of the biggest protections Ohioans have when it comes to defending their gun rights is written clearly in Article 1, Section 4 (A1§4) of the Ohio Constitution:
“The people have the right to bear arms for their defense and security.”
That statement provides robust legal protections for our gun rights, and the Radical Left wants it repealed.
The reason why is simple: if they ever got their gun-control agenda passed in Washington DC or in Columbus, A1§4 of the Ohio Constitution provides the legal basis to have their gun-control laws thrown out as “unconstitutional.”
That’s why the Radical Left is lining up against Issue 1 – big time.
And they’re calling in every Left-wing special interest group to try to make sure it is defeated: the ACLU, Moms Demand Action, Planned Parenthood, Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety, the Ohio Education Association, Ohio Students for Gun Control and nearly TWO HUNDRED other Lefty organizations.
You see, the way the Ohio law currently stands, Bloomberg, Soros or any other hate-America billionaire can come into Ohio, hire a couple hundred canvassers to collect the required petitions, and get a repealer of A1§4 of Ohio’s Constitution on the general election ballot.
Once they “make the ballot,” they can (and will) spend tens of millions of dollars in a statewide fake news media campaign to convince the public that repealing Ohio’s Constitutional right to own firearms will “make us safe.”
And on a statewide election ballot, all they need is 50%+1 of the votes cast to repeal it.
That would be catastrophic for our firearm freedoms.
It would also be their green starting flag: with the Ohio Constitution out of the way, the Radical Left would immediately do everything they can to attack our gun rights in Ohio by:
➜ Suing to have Constitutional Carry struck down; so that government is once again in the rights-regulation business. You see, the Left wants you to beg them for what is yours by being born an American!
➜ Suing to have Ohio’s Preemption law struck down; so that every anti-gun city in Ohio could pass their own set of gun-control laws. Columbus has proved that they will trample out the human right of self-defense the moment they get the chance!
➜ Suing to have Ohio’s Stand-Your-Ground and Castle laws struck down; so that lawful citizens are forced to try to “retreat” from a violent attacker when attacked in a public place before taking action to defend themselves, making Ohio law protect the criminal instead of the citizen.
That’s why it’s vital that Ohio Gun Owners (OGO) runs an aggressive program to mobilize the gun vote for the August 8th special elections!
Because don’t forget, the Left wants to turn the Ohio Constitution into a policy document, amending Red Flag laws, Universal Gun Registration and “Assault Weapon Bans” directly into the state constitution.
And they won’t stop there.
They will try to codify as a Constitutional “right” every manner of debauchery you can think of, like legalizing abortion up to (or after) the moment of birth, gender reassignment surgeries for kids, forced vaccinations, stripping away parental authority over your children, packing the court… you name it.
Every single one of these “Constitutional Amendments” would be decided by a simple majority of the voters: 50%+1.
That is why OGO supports Issue 1, which raises the threshold from 50% to 60% for changing the Ohio Constitution.
Ohio Gun Owners’ position on this is clear: “legislating” on important issues via Constitutional Amendment by 50%+1 of the voting population is Mob Rule, and destroys the restraints of a Constitutional Republic.
When you think about the “quality” of what our government indoctrination centers… er… public school system… is cranking out for the next generation of voters, that is not an option.
That’s why we must STOP THEM.
We know how to mobilize the gun vote. In fact, our copy is all written. The digital and radio ads are being produced. But we’re getting down to the wire, and I need your immediate help to run them in time to be effective.
Ohio Gun Owners doesn’t whine and complain when gun-grabbing Communists attack our freedoms – we FIGHT BACK and expose them using digital and radio ads, cutting edge texting programs and direct mail!
That’s why OGO has a record of smashing success, because OGO members always rise to the occasion and give us the ammo we need to fight with.
Now, I’m personally asking you to do it again.
The cost of running radio, TV, and digital ads statewide adds up very fast, as the out-of-state Lefty groups gobble up every bit of airtime they can get.
We can’t hold anything back.
The outcome of this special election will determine whether we block the Radical Left from taking a sledgehammer to the Ohio Constitution (if Issue 1 passes), or whether Ohio sets out on the path of destruction.
